Forum Nokia just published the QML UI Templates Library which provides commonly used UI-components for generic use with QML. This library is not meant to replace the official Qt Components-project but to provide larger templates for developers to take a look and utilize in their own projects.

The UI Templates Library contains reusable UI elements and templates used in the example applications RSSReader Example and  Restaurant Application Example.

They are aimed to be the basic building blocks of QML applications focusing on the UI. They are not only elementary UI components, like buttons or switches, but rather more comprehensive templates like four views with tab navigation bar or a list view + details view integrated.

Thanks to the Forum Nokia Champion Programme I just got my complimentary copy of the Qt for Symbian book. I really look forward to take a closer look at Qt and hope this book will help me moving first steps!

I would like to mention that along with the launch of the Nokia N8 Nokia has also released the Nokia Qt SDK Beta. The Nokia N8 is the company's first device to be integrated with Qt, a cross-platform software development environment. Qt simplifies development and makes it possible to build applications once, then deploy them across Symbian and other software platforms.

(via AllAboutSymbian) - An interesting video (from the recent Qt Developer Day) shows how the current S60 UI would act if it was powered by Qt. It's still recognisable as the interface that many have a love/hate relationship, but it gives a nice touchstone to jump off from to the next iteration of UI. Pretty cool!
